The rapper’s father Nicki Minaj he died after flee by a driver hit and fled near New York City, police said Sunday.
Robert Maraj, 64, was walking along a road in Mineola, Long Island, at 18:15 local time on Friday, when he was hit, said the Police Department of Nassau County in a statement.
The driver left the scene of the accident and Maraj was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead on Saturday.
“The investigation is ongoing,” police added.
The statement did not specify Maraj’s relationship with Minaj, but a police spokesman he confirmed that he was his father.
Minaj, 38, was born in Trinidad and Tobago and grew up in Queens, New York. The rapper was nominated at ten Grammy Awards throughout his career.
