News on Netflix (and leaving) in March 2021

In the absence of new and attractive movies and TV series (no Oscar hopefuls this month, I’m afraid), Netflix seems to be looking at the podcast market to find out how to keep its happy massive subscriber base. His new offerings in March include a number of documentary series and special offers that I would listen to in full, if they were podcasts. Will I watch? Good, I I will not. (I didn’t even see it Ted Lasso still.) But you might.

Operation: Varsity Blues (March 17) will surely attract the eyeballs, fascinated as we all were by the college admissions scandal that brought down cultural titans like Felicity Huffman, Aunt Becky of Full house, and the fashion mogul who once designed a paper towel holder I bought from Target. Everyone is still upset about how these already-hads have manipulated an already weighted system in their favor to bring their children to “good” colleges with good reason. The documentary comes from part of the same team that produced it early pandemic sensation Tiger King.

Mormon murder (March 3) is the kind of easy-to-exploit true crime story that seems like it was already a podcast you subscribed to last year, but forgot to listen to. It plunges into a bombing raid that terrorized Salt Lake City in the mid-1980s.

And an inspiring story of perseverance in Hoop Dreams Mold, Last chance U: basketball (March 10) is a spinoff from the long-running Netflix series Last chance U. It changes the focus from football to fellow basketball players who have struggled in their lives and studies and must play at the junior college level if they hope to return to the Division game.

If you prefer more fiction in your TV viewing diet, I’m personally excited to see how good it is. Pacific Rim the movie series translates into anime in Pacific Rim: The Black, launch on March 4 (huge robots in anime? It might work!). irregularity (March 26) has big Buffy / Sabrina potential: a series about young fighters against paranormal crime based on Sherlock Holmes’ famous “Baker Street Irregulars”. Moxie (March 3), a dramatic film about a girl who launches a zine to expose sexism in her high school, which sounds quite culturally relevant and is also the directorial debut of an Amy Poehler.

Here’s everything that comes and goes from Netflix in March 2021.
