Dr. Laura Berman speaks after teenage son dies of apparent drug overdose at Santa Monica

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (KABC) – Television director and relationship expert Dr. Laura Berman talks about the overdose death of her 16-year-old son, Sammy, in hopes of preventing a similar tragedy from happening to anyone else .

“My handsome boy is gone,” Berman wrote in an Instagram post on Sunday that included an undated photo of her and her son smiling in front of the camera as Berman hugs him.

“A drug dealer connected with him on Snapchat and gave him (fentanyl) laced Xanax or Percocet (toxicology will say so) and overdosed in his room,” the photo caption reads. “I do this because it catches people even more and it’s good for business, but it causes an overdose and kids don’t know what to take.”

Sammy died Sunday afternoon after an “experiment that went wrong,” she said, adding that he received “home-delivered drugs.” He was pronounced dead at his Santa Monica home, despite the efforts of firefighters who responded to the scene, authorities said.
