Our DaCosta’s Captain Marvel continuation it has now officially reached the “Good, let’s guess who will be the bad” phase of its existence, with Deadline Report that Zawe Ashton will play the negative character in Brie Larson ‘s return to the role of everyone’s favorite MCU cosmic badass. Ashton is probably best known to the public for playing Josephina in the 2019 horror art satire. Velvet saw, along with the lead roles in Netflix Wanderlust and British comedy series Fresh meat.
And since Marvel won’t just tell us who Ashton is playing, it’s time for the holiest Club AV traditions: unfounded speculation, fueled by nothing more than our knowledge of comic books that are sometimes 20-40 whole years. Now, given that Carol Danvers doesn’t actually have so many non-Kree-specific enemies, ours light money here Ashton plays Karla “Moonstone” Sofen, who served as Danvers’ evil counterpart during Marvel’s uber-gritty era The “Dark Reign” period in the late 2000s. While she and Carol had (relatively) few direct contests (puzzles more often with the first Captain Marvel and the Hulk), Moonstone is an interesting character in himself: a dishonest psychiatrist who likes to kill people as much as she does by analyzing enemies. And again: there is also just indeed a very, very small number of “Captain Marvel you bastards ” running through the world of Marvel Comics, so she gets to be ours bit is assumed by default.
Or, hey, maybe Ashton is playing a Skrull. (It’s always Skrulls!)
