Tom Brady’s parents battled COVID-19 early in the NFL season

As Tom Brady begins to prepare for his 10th Super Bowl of his career, his parents had an even bigger fight earlier this season.

Tom Brady Sr. revealed Monday that he and his wife, Galynn, both contracted COVID-19 in the fall and were both “sick as a dog.”

“When the season started this year, I was in the hospital with COVID for almost three weeks and my wife was sick with COVID at the same time,” Brady Sr. said Monday on ESPN’s “#Greeny.”

“I didn’t even see the first two games of the year. It was the first two games I missed in his career, because I was as sick as a dog, and my wife was as sick as a dog.

“I’ve never missed a game in Michigan or New England or anywhere. For the first two games, when I was in the hospital, I didn’t even care if they played, much less miss the game. It was a matter of life and death, just like anyone goes to the hospital. These are serious things. ”

Brady Sr. said his son was “stressed” as he tried to make sure his parents were okay in California as he began the season with a new team in Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers defender tried to meet his father daily with FaceTime, on the way to and from practice, according to Brady’s sister Sr. Brady, a nurse, was on hand to take care of their mother, a cancer survivor .

“Tommy fought through it,” Brady Sr. said. “Now it’s in the rearview mirror. We are healthy, we are happy and everything is good.

“We are just representatives of 25 million Americans who have had these things so far. There’s nothing to shake a stick at. He took the back seat to the football season. On the other hand, Tommy had to show up, everyone had to show up. ”

What if the Brady family plans to be in Tampa to see Tom watch a seventh Super Bowl ring?

“We certainly hope to be,” said Brady Sr., noting that they will be “extremely cautious” amid the pandemic. “It’s just a matter of being able to put together travel plans.”
