The latest seven-day rate of new cases in California is now 40.3 per 100,000 people, significantly lower than the national rate of 135.3, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Hawaii has the lowest level in the same period of time – 39.1 – according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Michigan has the highest seven-day case rate in the nation of 483 per 100,000 people.

“Cases and hospitalizations are on the rise in some parts of the country, and cases among younger people who have not yet been vaccinated are also on the rise,” CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said earlier this week.

“Like all of you, I want to go back to the things I love with family and friends that I haven’t been able to see in the last year. We all have a role to play in transforming this wave and reducing our cases. ‘

Last winter, the California average reached a maximum of over 40,000 new cases a day.

The state has seen other measurement trends in California-friendly directions.

On Tuesday, 1,774 people with coronavirus positive were in state hospitals, with 437 in intensive care. The figure remains among the lowest in the state since last spring.

The state recorded an average of 81 COVID-19 deaths per day in the last week. At the height of its growth, California had 600 daily deaths.
