LOS ANGELES (AP) – Los Angeles County Sheriff Intends to Announce What Caused Wednesday Tiger Woods golf icon will crash an SUV in Southern California earlier this year. The athlete was seriously injured in the wreck.
Sheriff Alex Villanueva previously said detectives had determined the cause of the crash, but he did not release him, citing privacy concerns and the alleged need for Woods’ permission to disclose information.
The sheriff “will discuss the findings of the recent traffic collision involving Mr. Tiger Woods, to include the causal factors and the collision report” during a news conference Wednesday morning in Los Angeles, the sheriff’s department said in a statement.
It was not immediately clear on Tuesday whether Woods – who previously called his yacht “Confidentiality” – had any involvement in the expected announcement.
Woods, who is from the Los Angeles area, had returned home to host his PGA Tour, Genesis Invitational at the Riviera Country Club, when the crash occurred on February 23rd.
He was driving a borrowed SUV on tour when he hit a high median in Rolling Hills Estates, right next to Los Angeles. The SUV crossed two approaching lanes and uprooted a tree on a downhill section that police said was known for wrecking..
The athlete is in Florida, recovering from several surgeries. Woods never went a full year without playing, dating back to his first 16-year-old high school PGA Tour event.
Rory McIlroy, a four-time major golf champion who lives near Woods, said he visited him on March 21.
