The family warns others about short visits after losing their mother, father at COVID-19 days before Christmas

CHICAGO – What was supposed to be a simple haircut cost her husband and wife just a few days before Christmas. Now, their son hopes that their story will serve as a precautionary story for those who want to celebrate the holiday with their loved ones.

The Chicago family was left speechless after several relatives were infected with COVID-19 in a single short visit.

The family hopes that their tragic story of caution will serve as a warning to others.

After 59 years of marriage, Mike and Carol Bruno died 10 days after fighting the coronavirus. Mike died Wednesday night.

“We never thought this was going to happen to our family and it did, and this virus is really unforgiving and just attacking in vicious ways,” said Joe, son of Mike and Carol.

Joe said that together with her brother, her sister and her husband, they also contracted the virus.

The family tragedy began with a haircut on November 20.

“My sister works in a salon and so, just before Thanksgiving, my sister received a COVID test and it was negative, and she was quarantined for three or four days after receiving the negative test. I don’t just cut your hair so you don’t have to go into the salon, “Joe recalls.
Joe’s sister brought her mother with her to her apartment.

“I didn’t hug my mother; I didn’t hug my sister. My sister cut my hair, it was a mask and all the windows were open,” Joe said. “We were distanced in my apartment and then they left. They finished maybe 40-45 minutes. Later that evening, my sister started to feel symptoms and about three days later I started to feel symptoms,” Joe said. .

The couple married for more than 47 years dies from COVID-19 moments away

“If I had made this sacrifice and, you don’t know, I wouldn’t have spent, you know, 30-40 minutes with my mother – it would still be here,” he said.
“We need to double the public health measures we know work,” Dr. Jay Bhatt told Medical Home Network. “So, I would just think about what risk you put yourself and others when you leave home to go to a family reunion.”

The family story is a reminder of the tragedy that COVID-19 can bring and brought to many families in 2020.

“I think the thing that gives us peace is knowing that my father didn’t know my mother was dead,” Joe said. “Knowing they’ve been together in less than 10 days is such a beautiful thing. And, you know, I’d give anything to bring them back, but I’m so happy to be together again.”
