Santa Clara County has the highest number of cases since the beginning of the pandemic, officials say

Santa Clara County has seen the most cases of coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic, as the state continues to withstand an increase in vacations that does not appear to have peaked yet.

In addition to the increased capacity of hospital beds, Kaiser plans to provide travel nurses to help with larger-than-normal winter hospitalizations. a few days after reaching the two million cases. Officials across the state say 52,309 new cases of the virus were recorded on Saturday for a total of 2,099,494, while 239 new deaths brought the total to 24,221 deaths.

While public health officials in the most populous county in the Bay Area reported 2,212 new cases of the virus for a total of 63,302 cases, Alameda County – the number two in terms of population – recorded the second most large number of cases since the beginning of the pandemic with 1,651 new cases for a total of 48,234.

Recent landmarks serve as a bleak reminder of the pandemic’s relentless attack on Bay residents, as shipments of the new vaccine make their way to severely affected hospitals.

Those hospitals are also facing extreme conditions, many of them reporting a low number of beds for ICU. Kaiser Permanent announced on Saturday that it will postpone “elective and non-emergency operations and procedures” until Jan. 4 at its hospitals in northern California as hospitalizations grow.

Closely staffed, Kaiser also plans to provide travel nurses to help with larger-than-normal winter hospitalizations.

All the people who died on Saturday in the Bay area were in those counties with the highest number of infections, Alameda County counting six deaths, and Santa Clara County registering nine deaths.
