Roberto Reyes, “Primo Chomo”, was and will be the most polished Salvadoran on national radio

Famous for his program “La hora de la Cucharada”, the actor, journalist, comedian and broadcaster opted for the national artist throughout his media career. His remains will be covered at modern funerals and will rest in the La Resurrección de San Salvador Memorial Park.

With his clever, uncharged eyes, with the smell of good grass, as it sounds and sounds, the wisest of all Salvadorans, Gerónimo Alumbración Silverio Calixto de la Concepción, better known as Primo Chomo, took farewell.

Roberto Reyes, the ingenuity and talent behind the popular national radio personality, died on April 1, 2021, at 11:00 pm, a victim of kidney failure and complicated pneumonia. This was reported by his son, Roberto Reyes Jr., “Chomito,” who inherited that versatility that characterized both his famous father.

The comedian and announcer also shared the news in the early hours of April 2 on his Twitter wall, generating a wave of messages of support and affection from those who knew and admired his father.

“Chomito, as I told you a while ago, God knows what he’s doing. He has already met your mother in heaven. Is better. These are God’s plans. You have to accept them and try to understand them. May Primo Chomo rest in peace and thank you for so much joy “, announced the announcer Pencho Duque.

It should be noted that throughout his career in the art scene and in the media, Primo Chomo opted for the national artist. “He always wanted even the ‘smallest’ edge, or the one that was just beginning, to move forward,” recalled Alfredo Barahona, host of Radio La Chévere’s “Muy Salvadoreño” program, who kept a beautiful friendship with Reyes.

As a promoter of Salvadoran artists, Barahona found a great ally in Primo Chomo. “He always asked me for the music of all the national artists, even if they were the so-called little ones …”, Barahona underlined.

For Reyes, the Salvadoran is polished! and for this reason he tried to reunite in the personality of his most famous character the features of the country cuscatleco. His journey through Salvadoran comedy dates back to the 1960s, after graduating from the Theater of the School of Fine Arts, where he joined the cast of artists from that institution; This allowed him to participate in the First Central American Theater Festival. His passion for acting began in his youth, when he used to grow old in order to read short screenplays in popular radio soap operas.

Great radio talents, such as Teresa Moreira, Mauricio Bojórquez, Leonardo Heredia, Francisco Medina Funes and Albertico Hernández, among others, influenced him. Later, he will share the stage with the famous comedian from Cujucuyo, Aniceto Porsisoca.

He also had the opportunity to act in the Mexican film “Solo de noche vienes” (1965), starring Julio Alemán and Elsa Aguirre, which was filmed in El Salvador and was part of the Artistic Caravan that traveled on the national territory.

He performed the locution on different positions, where he brought the charisma and ingenuity of his characters. Thus, he was part of YSKL radio, Radio Cuscatlán, Radio Diez and Radio Fiesta. He also worked on channels 8 and 10, where he presented Tele 10 news and his Super 8 program.

Reyes created Chomo in the 1980s, motivated by his radio colleagues, the Yellow Fever group, Tito Flores, and a colleague they called “El Barbarazo.” In August 2013, he received an award in Los Angeles, California, during the celebration of the August holidays, as part of his 35-year artistic career.

His remains will be buried on April 3 in La Resurrección Memorial Park.
