LONDON (AP) – Prince Harry, who left England for Southern California last year, sang the theme song at the 1990s sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” during a nightly talk show. late, in which he said no Do not deviate from his royal duties.
During a segment of CBS television’s “The Late, Late Show with James Corden,” which aired early Friday, Harry said he decided to step away from his job as a front-line member of the royal family in order to protect his wife and son – and his mental health.
“It was a step back, rather than a step down,” he told Corden. “It was a really difficult environment, which I think a lot of people have seen, so I did what any father or husband would do and I thought, ‘How do I get my family out of here? “But we never strayed, and as far as I’m concerned, no matter what decisions I make, I will never stray.”
The appearance marked Harry’s first interview since his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, stripped the prince and his wife, former actress Meghan Markle, of their remaining royal duties earlier this month. Corden’s coup overtook Oprah Winfrey, whose interview with the couple is scheduled to air on March 7.
The queen announced her decision on February 19, saying it was not possible for the couple to “continue with the responsibilities and duties that come with a public service life” after moving away from the royal family. Harry and Meghan responded by saying that “service is universal” and emphasizing their commitment to Britain, a response seen by some as disrespectful to the queen.
Regardless of the issues that divided the royalty, Harry suggested that he and Meghan stay in touch with the monarch and her husband, Prince Philip. Harry told Corden that the monarch had given Harry and Meghan’s son Archie a Christmas waffle maker, and that older family members had seen the child “run” to California through Zoom.
The prince also gave a look at the couple’s life in the rich enclave of Santa Barbara County in Montecito, where they generally watch the show “Jeopardy” and Netflix programs before bed. Archie’s first word was “crocodile,” Harry said.
During the light segment, which did not reach the commercial adventures of the royal couple, Corden and the prince tour southern California with an open bus. At one point they arrived outside the mansion where the opening sequence of Will Smith’s “Fresh Prince” was filmed.
“If he was good enough for the new prince, he’s good enough for a real prince,” says Corden, climbing the road. “Do you remember the song?”

Meghan then asked “Haz” how her tour of Los Angeles was going, prompting Corden to ask Harry about the nickname.
