Just over half of US adults have now received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showed on Sunday, nearly 130 million people 18 years of age or older they received the first blow.

This figure represents about 50.4% of the total US adult population, according to the CDC, marking a milestone for the country that has recorded more than 560,000 deaths due to the pandemic, the largest for any nation, as the government accelerates the pace of vaccination .

The United States has administered 209,406,814 doses of COVID-19 vaccines in the country since Sunday morning and distributed 264,505,725 doses, the CDC said Sunday.

These figures are higher than the 205,871,913 doses of vaccine that the CDC said had entered its arms by April 17 out of 264,499,715 doses administered.

The agency said 131,247,546 people had received at least one dose, while 84,263,408 people had been fully vaccinated since Sunday.

The CDC account includes two-dose vaccines from Moderna Inc (MRNA.O) and Pfizer Inc / BioNTech (PFE.N), <22UAy.DE>, as well as the Johnson & Johnson one-shot vaccine (JNJ.N), starting at 6 a.m. EDT (1000 GMT) on Sunday.

On Tuesday, US federal health agencies recommended discontinuing J & J’s COVID-19 vaccine for several days after six women under the age of 50 developed rare blood clots after receiving the vaccine.

A total of 7,779,273 doses of vaccine were administered in long-term care facilities, the agency said.
