One dead, several wounded stabbed at the library in the Vancouver area, suspected in custody

NORTH VANCOUVER, Canada (Reuters) – A person is dead and several people were injured on Saturday at a public library in a wealthy Vancouver suburb, and a suspect, who appears to have acted alone, was taken into custody.

Global News in Canada reported a death, citing homicide police, who were not immediately available for confirmation. No details provided.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) said “several victims” were stabbed inside and outside the North Vancouver Library and that one suspect was held in custody.

“He appears to have been a lone suspect,” the RCMP said on Twitter, adding that it was still looking for “potential additional victims”.

Amy Robertson of BC Emergency Health Services said six people were taken to hospital and could not provide details about their condition, Canadian Broadcasting Corp (CBC) reported earlier.

“I was driving … and there was a woman right next to her car with a 7-year-old boy, several stab wounds and heavy bleeding … She said it was a random stinger running down the street,” a witness said. he gave his name while Steve told Canada News Global.
