Leo Brent Bozell IV, the son of right-wing activist L. Brent Bozell III, has been indicted in federal court for his alleged role in the January 6 Chapter insurrection.
Bozell IV faces three charges – disorderly conduct, entry into a restricted building and obstruction of a formal procedure – according to a unsealed complaint on February 16.
Bozell’s father is the founder of the conservative Media Research Center, a self-described surveillance group that aims to “expose and neutralize the propaganda arm of the left: the national media.” His Parent Television Council is campaigning to bring “responsibility and decency to the entertainment industry in response to America’s demand for positive, family-oriented television programs,” and the Institute for Culture and Media, which Bozell III founded in 1987, opposes what “Liberal Prejudice” claims throughout the American media. Bozell III is honest about his extreme anti-abortion views, and recently complained on the Fox Business network that all Republicans were unjustly prepared as participants in riots.
The complaint against Bozell IV, who coached girls’ basketball at the Hershey Christian Academy in Pennsylvania, contains screenshots of videos showing him on the Senate balcony, as well as wandering the Senate floor during the Capitol Uprising. He can be seen wearing a blue sweatshirt, accompanied by “Hershey Christian Academy” over his chest. At least three separate witnesses saw videos on television or on Bozell’s social networks participating in the riot and contacted the FBI, the complaint reads.
The FBI received its first piece of advice about Bozell IV on Jan. 14, according to the complaint. The tipster provided the full name of Bozell IV, along with links to Bozell’s videos from the Capitol, as well as photos of him leaving the building. The next day, a second person contacted the FBI about a photo they had seen on Twitter with Bozell IV, followed by additional information gathered from the Facebook page of the Hershey Christian Academy, which revealed the coach’s nickname as “Zeeker.”
Six days later, a third citizen sent advice via the FBI website, which includes a photo of Bozell IV and a teenage girl on a basketball court holding a trophy. The tipster said it was “100% positive that Zeeker Bozell” was involved in the Capitol riot.
A few days after the siege of the Chapter, a co-worker showed the tipster a photograph of a man coming out of the Chapter building in a blue Hershey Christian Academy sweatshirt. They “immediately identified” Bozell IV as the parent of the children who participated in Hershey Christian and who also served as the girls’ basketball coach until March 2020, “because the team could no longer practice or play games, since cause COVID -19 pandemic. ”
Bozell IV does not yet have a lawyer registered in the court files. A Bozell III spokesman did not respond to a request for comment from The Daily Beast.
