LA County lags behind other Southern California counties in opening vaccinations for people 65 and older, but county health officials say their goal is to start offering the vaccine to that age group. in early February – a goal they say is dependent on vaccine delivery.
Currently, LA County offers the vaccine only to health care workers and qualified residents of medical and staff, despite the state’s opening of eligibility for residents 65 and older. County officials say they do not yet have adequate doses locally to begin opening vaccinations to residents of that age group.

Health officials say there are about 1.3 million people aged 65 and over in the county, which has a population of 10 million. More information about the distribution of vaccines in the county is available on its website.
There are reports that states may not receive anticipated vaccine deliveries from the national depot next week because the federal dose reserve has already been depleted. Gov. Gavin Newsom says California has already received 3 million doses and expected more to come from the federal government.
Newsom says California has anticipated receiving hundreds of thousands of doses and is still trying to get answers from the Trump administration and is working with the Biden administration that is coming to get answers on when it could receive more vaccines.
As LA County approaches 1 million COVID-19 cases, the county announced Friday that five more mass vaccination sites will open. Dodger Stadium opened Friday as a vaccination site.

The new locations will begin vaccinations on Tuesday and will be able to vaccinate 4,000 people a day at each site. The county hopes to complete 500,000 more vaccinations by the end of the month. The new super sites will be located at:
– Fairplex in Pomona
– Inglewood Forum
– Cal State University in Northridge
– Downey County Board of Education
– Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia
Meanwhile, local leaders, such as Los Angeles City Council President Nury Martinez, are calling for a waiting list for people 65 and older, as well as those on the front lines, as key workers to vaccinate. more people faster.
