Instead of playing for the Nets on Tuesday night, Brooklyn star Kyrie Irving attended a video call launch party for Democratic candidate for Manhattan District Attorney Tahanie Aboushi.
Aboushi posted a picture of the Zoom meeting on Twitter, and Irving – who was away from the Nets last week – was among more than 200 volunteers and supporters who attended.
The meeting, co-hosted by actress Cynthia Nixon, began at 7 p.m. – about 40 minutes before the Nets stopped against the Denver Nuggets at the Barclays Center.
Irving, 28, missed four straight games, including his team’s 122-116 victory on Tuesday.
The absence of the guard is believed to be upset by the revolt in the US Chapter.
Irving has not spoken publicly since the insurrection, but on Monday night a video appeared about him apparently spending without a mask while celebrating his sister’s birthday.
The video was not dated.
Nets CEO Sean Marks said in a statement that the organization was aware of the video and “reviews the circumstances with both Kyrie and the NBA to determine compliance with health and safety protocols.”
NBA COVID-19 protocols prohibit players from going to bars, lounges or clubs or social gatherings with more than 15 people.
Irving is in the second season of a four-year, $ 136 million contract.
