Nets All-Star protector Kyrie Irving could face several NBA sanctions after dropping the 11:10 Zoom call with the media on All-Star Sunday.
The media was notified at 11:15 during the conversation that Irving would not join and decided that he would only talk about the post-game.
The 24 All-Stars were mandated to speak to the media late Sunday morning / early afternoon before the All-Star Game, as they were allowed to appear on Saturday night instead of Friday.
The 28-year-old All-Star, seven times, was fined $ 25,000 by the NBA for not speaking on standard Media Day at the beginning of training camp.
Irving posted on Instagram after he was fined for being “tired of someone else’s” sports media propaganda. Rumors circulated Irving would not speak all season.
When the NBA fined Irving, he said, “The fines result from Irving’s refusal on several occasions this week to participate in the team’s media availability.”
After the fine, Irving wrote in a statement that he hopes the fine money will support marginalized communities. Irving also added, “My goal this season is to let my work on and off the field speak for itself.”
Perhaps Irving was unprepared to answer certain questions, such as what he thought about the potential of adding former All-Star Blake Griffin to the list. The Nets are considered favorites for the free-agent striker after the Pistons bought his contract.
