Kate Middleton paid a visit on Saturday at a memorial service for Sarah Everard, the London woman killed last week on her way home from a friend’s apartment.
The Duchess of Cambridge made an unannounced stop at the Clapham Common music stand to add a bouquet to the memorial there.
Kensington Palace said Middleton “wanted to pay tribute to his family and Sarah,” SkyNews reported. “She remembers what it was like to walk around London the night before she got married.”
Everard’s murder has triggered a new round of calculations for the British in terms of women’s safety.
Organizers hoped to hold a women’s security vigil at the memorial site later Saturday, but were denied permission due to the pandemic. Londoners, on the other hand, are urged to shine a light on the doorstep at 9:30 p.m.
Earlier on Saturday, Wayne Couzens, 48, a police officer patrolling London’s embassies, made his first appearance in court. He is charged with kidnapping and murder in Everard’s death.
