Jessica Walter, the star of “Arrested for Development” and “Archer”, dies at the age of 80

Jessica Walter, the Emmy-winning actress known for her starring roles in “Arrested Development” and “Archer,” has died, her daughter said in a statement Thursday. He was 80 years old.

“I heartily confirm the confirmation of the passing of my beloved mother Jessica,” her daughter Brooke Bowman said in a statement. “An active actor for over six decades, her greatest pleasure has been to bring joy to others by telling her story both on screen and on screen.”

Walter has played a variety of roles throughout his career and took home an Emmy Award in 1975 for his portrayal of a young California police detective in “Amy Prentiss.”

While starring in Broadway, Nightlife, Photo Finish and Opinion and Consent, Walter received critical acclaim as a television and film actress, receiving three more Emmy nominations on during his career with two Golden Globe nominations.

She was praised for playing Lucille Bluth in “Arrested Development”, a rich and untouchable matriarch who has to take care of her children and the loss of her fortune. She shared three Screen Actor’s Guild Award nominations with her cast colleagues for the show.

David Cross, who played Lucille’s son-in-law, called portraiture one of television’s greatest characters.

“I just heard the news about Jessica Walter, an absolutely brilliant actress and amazing talent,” Cross posted on Twitter. “I consider myself privileged and very lucky to have been able to work with her.”

Tony Hale, who played Lucille’s son Buster, called Walter “a force” in an emotional farewell message. “Her talent and timing were second to none,” Hale said posted on Twitter Thursday. “Rest in peace, Mother Bluth.”

Walter leaves behind her daughter Brooke and a grandson.
