The COVID awards season is finally underway after the presentation of the Golden Globe and Grammy winners in 2021. Next: those big Hollywood SAGs.
The Screen Actors Guild 2021 Awards will air on Sunday, April 4, at 18:00 PT and 21:00 EST on TNT and TBS, although the coronavirus pandemic has created several obstacles to the often underrated show that honors the best film and television.
The one-hour pre-recorded ceremony is streamed via mobile network applications and the SAG website, as well as Hulu on Roku, Apple TV and Amazon Fire.
Originally scheduled for January 24, the SAG-AFTRA unions postponed the show to March 14. Then, the Grammy Awards, which were set for January 31, moved the ceremony on the same day as the SAGs – which further intensified programming conflicts. One week after the Recording Academy moved its day, SAG-AFTRA rescheduled the show on April 4.
COVID-19 did a number on Hollywood ceremonies as a whole, pushing the Golden Globes from the first Sunday of the year until February 28th and the Oscars until April 25th from the usual February date.
Nominations for the 27th SAG Awards were announced in February by “Emily in Paris” star Lily Collins, 31, and Daveed Diggs, 39, “Snowpiercer” at just a day after the Golden Globes nodded the best actress Collins. Diggs earned a SAG nomination for male actor in a television movie or limited series for his role in “Hamilton.”
