Hilary Duff wanted her nine-year-old son, Luca, to see her born

Hilary Duff says she wanted her 9-year-old son Luca to witness her birth in the water so he could see “how strong women are and what birth looks like.”

Hilary Duff revealed why she wanted her nine-year-old son Luca to witness the birth of a new daughter, Mae.

The 33-year-old star, who gave birth to Mae on March 24, made the revelation during an appearance on the Informed Pregnancy podcast.

“It simply came to our notice then [for him to be there] because I’m too old to be open and honest with him about how strong women are and what birth looks like, “Hilary told Dr. Elliott Berlin on Thursday.

“He knows all about periods and it’s important for me to normalize that conversation with him for all the women who will be in his life.”

“He wanted to be there for that, but it happened so fast that he missed it,” said actress Cheaper By The Dozen.

Hilary also revealed that her labor and birth lasted more than three hours.

The actress explained that she wanted to dispel the idea that women are inherently weaker than men.

“I think sometimes a 9-year-old says, ‘Well, men have bigger muscles,’ and, yes, yes, but we bring life into this world. We move a baby through our body, ‘she said.

“There’s a big topic of conversation in the house right now: equality and strength coming from different places, apart from your muscles or anything else.”

Mae is Hilary’s third child. She shares Mae and Banks with her husband and singer-songwriter Matthew Koma, 33. Matthew and Hilary started dating in 2017 and tied the knot in December 2019.

She was previously married to former professional hockey player Mike Comrie, who is Luca’s father. The Canadian NHL star and cover girl Maxim got married in 2010, after three years of dating.

In February 2015, Duff filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. The couple’s divorce was finalized a year later.

Hilary became a household name after receiving the title role in the hit Disney Channel series Lizzie McGuire. The show began in 2001 and ended in 2004. The actress resumed her role in 2003 when she starred in The Lizzie McGuire.

The former teen idol is also a singer-songwriter. He released five albums, several of which were gold and platinum. Hilary met Matthew when they worked together on their fifth album Breathe In. Exhale. in 2015.

To the delight of her fans, Duff announced in 2019 that she will return as Lizzie McGuire in a rebirth of the series.

However, the project was later canceled by Disney +, explaining that they held the show “unless and until” they were able to meet fan expectations.

Hilary can be seen in the seventh and final season of the comedy-drama series Younger, which premiered Thursday on Paramount +.
