After 52 million subscribers to the Netflix melodrama Ginny & Georgia, the series has been officially renewed for season two.

Antonia Gentry, 23, and Brianne Howey, 31, will return as mother-daughter duo Ginny and Georgia, respectively, in 10 completely new episodes on the streaming network, reported Monday Deadline.

Season one of the youth drama brought headlines when Taylor Swift criticized the show for a “deeply sexist” joke about her dating history.

The second season of Ginny & Georgia will be produced in Toronto with the same all-female creative team behind season one, Deadline reported.

No date has been set for when production will resume or when fans can expect to see new episodes released on Netflix.

“We are so grateful for the incredible response and love you have all shown Ginny & Georgia. We are especially grateful to Brianne and Toni, who set the highest bar at every step. We can’t wait to return to Wellsbury for season two, ‘said Debra J. Fisher, showrunner and creator Sarah Lampert, in a statement.

The series follows Ginny, a teenager and her mother Georgia, aged 30, while they start again in the elegant suburban town of Wellsbury.

In the first season, Ginny finds herself in a complicated love triangle at her new high school – made even more messy by the fact that she has hots for her new best friend’s brother, who also happens to be her next door neighbor.

Meanwhile, her bombshell of a beautiful mother from the south, Georgia, tries to overcome her checkered past as she settles in the city – and with the lone mayor, the only one … who is also her boss.

The series debuted on February 24 and joined 2021 Netflix jugglers such as Brigerton and Lupine, being watched by an astonishing 52 million subscribers in its first 28 days.

The first season ended with Ginny and Georgia at odds and the teenager running away with her younger brother Austin.

The finale also contained a joke about Taylor Swift’s long list of exes who, in today’s climate, didn’t get along well with the superstar.

The 31-year-old Grammy winner took to her considerable Twitter platform to hit Netflix for broadcasting what she referred to at the time as a “deeply sexist” and “degrading” joke.

Taylor wrote on Twitter: “Hey Ginny and Georgia, they called in 2010 and she wants a lazy, deeply sexist joke,” Taylor wrote. – How about stopping the degradation of working women, defining this horse as FuNnY.

Following Taylor’s criticism, Antonia shared a long statement in which she expressed her gratitude for the support of the fans: “Thank you for the love and support you have shown me and our show, Ginny and Georgia, in the last week.

“I would never have imagined such a thing as a young girl – that is, with a voice capable of impact.

“It’s so significant to see hundreds of messages from fans in the e-mail box who feel seen, heard and understood because of the show and its characters. It was also fun to hear from those who were happy to take part in a fun walk.

Adding in part, “Like someone who grew up feeling voiceless and unimportant and not reflected on screen, Ginny Miller was ultimately a procrastination.”
