Former Tennessee Eric Gray is heading to Oklahoma as a transfer

Former Tennessee striker Eric Gray is moving to Oklahoma, he announced Wednesday.

Gray, who led Tennessee in the 772-meter rush and finished second in the team with 30 receptions in 2020, entered the NCAA transfer portal last week after Vols fired head coach Jeremy Pruitt.

The 5-foot-10, 205-pound gray would have decided between Oklahoma and Texas and him posted his decision on Twitter Wednesday evening.

Gray appeared at the end of the 2019 season, leading Tennessee with four hurried touchdowns and finishing in second place with 539 rushing yards on 101 carries. He won MVP honors in the Tennessee Gator Bowl victory over Indiana.

The Memphis native finished his Vols career with 1,311 multifunction yards and 11 touchdowns (eight rushing, three receiving). ESPN ranked Gray 19th in second place and 263rd in the 2019 overall recruiting rankings.

Gray was held out of the final season in Tennessee on Dec. 19 for undisclosed reasons, but sources told ESPN he missed the game because of an internal investigation into potential NCAA violations. In announcing Pruitt’s dismissal last week, Tennessee Chancellor Donde Plowman said the internal investigation showed that serious NCAA violations had been committed.

Oklahoma is also losing to Russian leader Rhamondre Stevenson, who will enter the 2021 NFL draft, while No. 2 TJ Pledger has moved to Utah. Sooners averaged 179.7 rushing yards per game in 2020.

ESPN’s Mark Schlabach contributed to this report.
