Reached the United States 31,263,579 confirmed cases of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus and 562,504 deaths from Covid-19 disease, according to the independent count of Universidad Johns Hopkins.
California is now the state hardest hit by the pandemic with 60,479 deaths followed by New York (51,204), Texas (49,231), Florida (34056), Pennsylvania (25,397), New Jersey (24,896), and Illinois (23,809).
Other states with a high number of deaths are Georgia (19,523), Ohio (18,827), Michigan (17,576), Massachusetts (17,406) or Arizona (17,086).
In terms of infections, California has 3,702,307, followed by Texas with 2,831,972, Florida is third with 2,125,846, New York is fourth with 1,962,225 and Illinois is fifth with 1,282,114.
The preliminary death toll, 562,504, well exceeds the lower limit of initial White House estimates, which predicted between 100,000 and 240,000 deaths from the pandemic in the best cases.
The new president of the United States, Joe Biden, has predicted that a total of more than 600,000 people in the country will die from the virus.
For his part, Institute for Health Metrics and Assessments (IHME) from the University of Washington, in whose prediction models of the evolution of the pandemic the White House, estimates that about 610,000 people will have died by July 1.
As for vaccines, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 120.8 million people (36.4% of the population) have received at least one dose, of which 74 million (22.3%) have already been fully vaccinated.
