Growing up, Corinne Foxx was mortified by her famous father: Jamie Foxx.
For years, she and her Oscar-winning father will find family and friends with stories about how she regularly embarrassed her eldest daughter – and even scared her friends while wearing “pants so who were “too young for him.”
Now, they’ve taken those anxious stories and turned them into the new Netflix series rightly titled, “Dad Stop Embarrassing Me!”, In which the 53-year-old “Soul” star plays a single father, whose strong-willed teenage daughter moves in with him.
When asked on a scale of one to 10 how embarrassing “superstar” Ray was, 27-year-old Corinne told The Post that her Pops were over at 15 years old.
“When you look at these stories you can laugh now, I’m hilarious,” she explained. “When you’re in this moment and it’s happening to you and you’re a teenager and everything feels like the end of the world … It felt like the worst thing that could happen was for him to show up at my football game in a tight leather jacket. ‘God, why is he doing this ?! Nothing can be worse than that! “
Corinne, whose mother is Jamie’s ex-girlfriend, Connie Kline, said she now has a very close relationship with her father – but things haven’t always been so rosy.
“My father was very, very charismatic,” she said. “I was more reserved and quieter, so I had these funny moments of tension or he embarrassed me.”
“Now, I’m at the age where I can appreciate all his quirks and he’s on top, and I certainly have a new perspective on all his whims,” the former Miss Golden Globes continued. “We are incredibly close and I think we always had this yin and yang relationship in which he was truly supreme, and I was more reserved and there, in adolescence, there were many conflicts. But now I think we can appreciate those qualities in each other and use them creatively to our advantage. ”
Corinne, who says they have a deal with Netflix, essentially launching her worrying diaries, began as a producer on the sitcom – starring her father’s former co-star, “In Living Color,” David Alan Grier – and was promoted to executive producer in the middle of filming.
“For the first two weeks, I felt like a fish in water and trying to do everything,” she said. “I said, ‘What’s my job description?’ And they said, “You’re just doing everything!” I think it was a big learning curve. I think a lot was being a woman and a young woman and finding your voice in the room and talking and holding your weapons on certain issues. These were things I had to build my trust in. Not to mention that someone was hard to work with, it was just my journey. ”

“I talk a lot about de-stigmatizing mental health, especially in the black community,” she said. “There is a lot of stigma regarding the request for help and I feel that the more I can talk about my journey with my own anxiety, then the more people will feel comfortable looking for help.”
Corinne also revealed that “she has been in therapy since I was 14 and I have a lot of coping skills, so she is definitely in a better place right now. It worries me about all the normal things – but especially I live in today’s world, where the news seems to get worse. Adjusting the news and mediating really helped me. ”
