Biden gets excited as he discusses Hunter’s son’s book

President Biden told CBS’s Norah O’Donnell in a new interview that reading excerpts from his son Hunter’s future memoirs “gave me hope.”

“The honesty with which he took a step forward and talked about the issue … gave me hope to read it,” the president said, becoming emotional as he spoke about his son’s struggles with substance abuse.

“It was like my boy’s back,” he added.

The president made the remarks in an interview broadcast Sunday before the Super Bowl, his first televised interview on the network since taking office.

“My son, like many people, like many people you know at home, had a drug problem,” Joe Biden said at the time. “He overcame it, repaired it, worked on it and I’m proud of it.”

The president gave a similar note in his interview with O’Donnell, describing his son’s addiction struggles as related to many Americans.

“You know, I bet there’s no family you know who doesn’t have someone in the family who has a drug or alcohol problem,” he said.

Hunter Biden’s memoir, “Beautiful Things,” will be released in April and is expected to address his drug use sincerely.

Hunter Biden confirmed late last year that the US law firm in Delaware is investigating his tax business. Reports have suggested that the investigation focuses on its foreign affairs, which were the target of attacks by former President Trump during the campaign.

Hunter Biden is the only living son of the president. His other son, Beau Biden, died in 2015 after a battle with brain cancer.
