(Reuters) – Apple Inc.’s chief hardware engineer, Dan Riccio, will step down to oversee a new project, the iPhone maker said on Monday, giving some details about the last role of the long-term executive.
Riccio will report to CEO Tim Cook, Apple said in a statement. He will be replaced by veteran John Ternus, who will join the executive team as senior vice president of hardware engineering.
Riccio, who joined Apple more than two decades ago as vice president of product design, was named vice president of iPad hardware engineering in 2010 and leads the Mac, iPhone, iPad and iPod engineering teams.
The company has focused on newer projects and has advanced with automotive technology, aiming to produce a passenger vehicle by 2024 that could include its own discovered battery technology, Reuters reported last month. (reut.rs/3oimk75)
