Apple is now able to repair the broken glass of an iPhone 12 Pro without replacing the entire device

Last month, MacRumors reported that Apple is introducing a new repair method with the same unit for the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 models that have some issues that would normally require a replacement of the entire unit. Now, we have learned that Apple has extended these repairs to the same unit on the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Apple stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers have access to a new “Rear iPhone System” part, which is essentially an iPhone case that includes all of the components except the display and the rear camera. Starting this week, this part is available for all four iPhone 12 models, according to an Apple note obtained by MacRumors.

If a customer has a cracked iPhone 12 Pro with a cracked rear window, for example, an Apple store or an Apple-authorized service provider, they can replace the entire back of the device with the back of the iPhone system, while retaining the original camera display and back. For this reason, the iPhone display and the rear camera must not have any damage or problems for the device to qualify for repair on the same unit.

IPhone 12 models may be eligible for a repair with the same unit if they can’t be powered or have problems with the logic board, Face ID system, or device case, such as a cracked rear window, according to Apple. The new repair method is said to be available in all countries and regions where iPhone 12 models are sold.

In its note, Apple reiterated that this move supports the company’s ongoing commitment to reduce the carbon footprint of every product it sells.
