Apple is closing all locations in California amid growing COVID-19 cases

Apple is temporarily closing all stores in California amid a steady increase in COVID-19 cases in the state.

All 53 stores will be closed until further notice due to the alarming rise in hospitalization in California, Apple said in a statement to CNBC.

“Due to the current Covid-19 conditions in some of the communities we serve, we are temporarily closing stores in these areas,” an Apple spokesman said.

“We take this step with great caution while closely monitoring the situation and look forward to returning our teams and customers as soon as possible.”

Customers will still be able to take existing online orders and participate in scheduled technical support appointments.

The drastic move comes after the tech giant closed its Los Angeles stores, Bloomberg reported on Friday.

Apple closures followed a severe stage for Southern California, where health officials there said Thursday that the region had run out of beds for ICU patients.

California reported more than 1,800,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus and more than 22,400 deaths as of Saturday night, according to the state’s COVID-19 dashboard.
