Apple Inc. is close to a deal with Hyundai-Kia to produce an Apple autonomous electric vehicle at a Kia plant in Georgia, CNBC reported late Wednesday, citing “multiple” sources who informed CNBC of the plan.
The so-called “Apple car” is developed by a team from Apple AAPL,
and will go into production in 2024, although this date could be rejected, CNBC said.
No firm agreement has been reached between the companies, and Apple could opt for a partnership with another car manufacturer separately or in addition to working with Hyundai 005380,
CNBC said.
The South Korean press reported earlier Wednesday that the Korean carmaker received a $ 3.6 billion investment from Apple as part of a collaboration to manufacture electric vehicles. Hyundai owns about a third of the Kia 000270,
stock.
