Apple calls for security updates to iPhone, iPad

Apple urges iPhone and iPad users to update their devices to fix security flaws that could have been “actively exploited” by hackers

CUPERTINO, California – Apple urges iPhone and iPad users to update their devices to fix security flaws that could have been “actively exploited” by hackers.

Apple made software updates available on Tuesday, adding a rare note suggesting it is a serious threat.

The company accredited anonymous researchers because it highlighted the vulnerability, but provided few details about the nature of the threat.

The company said that one of the vulnerabilities affects the “core”, the nerve center of Apple’s operating system, iOS. Two others affect WebKit, the web browser engine used by Safari, and other applications.

The update is for several generations of devices, starting with the iPhone 6.
