FOld phones are still not quite common, but Huawei’s new Mate X2 looks like it could be real competition for Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2.
Announced by live broadcast Earlier today, the Mate X2 represents a major deviation from previous Huawei foldable phones. The company has changed from an outward-folding design to an inward-folding design that places the Mate X2’s 8-inch 2480 x2200 foldable OLED display on the inside of the device. AOutside, there’s now a 6.45-inch 27.45 x 1600 secondary OLED display with 90-inch interior and exterior Refresh rates Hz.
Mate X2 has the same basic design as Samsung’s expensive foldable, although the Galaxy Z Fold 2 has a higher 120 Hz refractSH the duck. But Huawei deviates in some interesting ways.
The first big change is something I would really like Samsung to do. On tInside, Huawei doesn’t include a selfie camera, so there’s no notch or hole.bag the camera to distract from that huge flexible screen. It might seem like a bold call to some – especially with the way they are on social media now – but since you can still take a selfie with the camera above the outside screen, that means when it’s open, your attention is so great, full screen experience, right where it should be.

Huawei said during its live stream that The Mate X2 will have a small crease in which the phone’s screen bends due to its design, however with with smart engineering, wrinkling should be more of a wave to help avoid potential screen distortion. TThe Mate X2’s hinge has also been designed to close the gap between the two halves of the phone when folded, which Samsung could not do on the Z Fold 2. The end result is a more compact body.
Another important difference is that the Mate X2 has a more standard 21: 9 external display compared to the super-25: 9 weak screen that Samsung uses on Z Fold 2, which gives you more real estate when you respond quickly to texts or check notifications. These are all changes that should make the Mate X2 easier to use every day and serves to reinforce why foldable phones need more companies to test design changes if they ever become popular.
TMate X2’s cameras include a 16 MP exterior selfie cam, together with a quadthe rear camera mode consists of a 50 MP main camera, a 16 MP dinner camera, a 3 MP zoom camera of 12 MP and a 8 MP Super Zoom Camera with 10x Zoom. This is a fairly powerful set of photo tools with Huawei’s 10x zoom that offers much longer coverage than the 2x optical zoom on the Z Fold 2.
Samsung loaded up to its foldable model with impressive specifications, but Mate X2 the components are not as high with only 8 GB RAM and 256 GB or 512 GB storage space and no support for wireless charging. Mate X2 can too be the last Huawei phone to feature one of the company’s internal companies Kirin 9000 chips, which were originally supposed to be withdrawn after last year Mate 40 Pro. Even so, the Mate X2 is expected to cost 18,000 RMB in China (about $ 2,785) when it goes on sale on February 25th.– This is almost $ 800 more than a Fold Z 2.
Hauwei says it will update the Mate X2 with its new Harmony operating system later this spring, but Huawei phones don’t support Google apps or services yet, which is a problem for people living outside of Asia. Bebetween that, it is High price and unknown availability for Mate X2 outside of China, even if this device is a nice twist in the design of the foldable phone, Huawei technology remains a difficult sale –especially for people in the US
