AUBURN (CBS13) – The Placer County Sheriff’s Office announced on Saturday that a person tested positive for the virus in late December and died hours after vaccination on Thursday.
Now, there are questions from the community about vaccine safety. An Auburn woman says she witnessed the tragedy first hand.
In a Facebook post, she said she saw the help of her grandfather, a 56-year-old man, receiving the vaccine on Thursday in a nursing home.
“Twenty minutes later, he realized that his legs were tingling and that he was out of breath. He was turned in an ambulance … 1 hour later he was in intensive care with a ventilator and three hours later he died “, she wrote.
She goes on to say, “Hearing this, my family destroyed [sic] heart, because he took care of my grandfather for years and was there helping us as we came to say goodbye ”.
Dr. Jeffrey Klausner, a UCLA infectious disease expert, said there were no vaccine-related deaths yet. Klausner said people should not be so quick to blame themselves before there are answers about the cause of death in this case.
He says that if a person develops an allergic reaction within 15 minutes of receiving the shot, there is a possibility that the reaction may become fatal.
Meanwhile, the county forensic scientist performs an autopsy to determine the cause of death, and the sheriff’s office does not confirm the age, sex, place where this happened or what vaccine they received.
Dr. Klausner said there have been several allergic reactions to the vaccine, including breathing problems or fainting, which may occur within 15 minutes of the dose. But he says the risk is low – about 1 in 250,000 photos.
Several agencies are investigating, including the California Department of Health.
Dr. Mark Ghaly, secretary of the California Agency for Health and Human Services, admitted Monday that he was investigating, but also stressed that people who received the Modern and Pfizer vaccines did not have a significant reaction.
