HOUSTON “A Houston police officer shot a man with a gun on Monday after the man shot and killed a person and brandished a gun in a store,” police said.
The shootings were reported around 2:20 p.m., near the intersection of North Main and East 43rd Streets.
According to Houston Police Chief Executive Officer Troy Finner, the man shot and killed a person in the 8500 block of North Main Street before entering a nearby store and brandishing his gun.
Finner said an officer responded on the spot and the man began firing at him. He said the officer returned fire and hit the gunman. He said the officer was not injured and the man was taken to hospital for treatment. He said the man is listed in critical condition.
Finner said investigators are trying to determine if the man knew the person who was shot and killed.
The man who was shot by the officer has not yet been identified.
Finner said the officer involved in the shooting was charged with administrative duties, which is standard practice.
