Brooklyn Nets goalkeeper Kyrie Irving has been fined $ 50,000 for violating the league’s health and safety protocols and ordered to serve a five-day quarantine, the league’s chief operating officer said Friday. NBA, Byron Spruell.
Irving could return to the team’s activities on Saturday if he continues to give negative results for COVID-19, and sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski that Irving should play in Saturday’s game against the Orlando Magic.
Irving has left the team in his last five games for personal reasons. The Nets did not reveal details about Irving’s absence, but general manager Sean Marks said on Thursday that the goalkeeper said he was eager to return to the team.
According to an NBA statement, Irving violated the protocols by attending a private party last weekend. The statement mentions the rules of the league against “participation in social gatherings covered by 15 or more people or entering bars, lounges, clubs or similar units.”
He will lose $ 816,898 in salary for the two games he missed this week because of his quarantine, according to ESPN’s Bobby Marks.
Irving’s new teammate James Harden was fined $ 50,000 in December for violating NBA’s COVID-19 protocols after the league reviewed a video of him socializing without a mask at a club.
