It wouldn’t be a shocking move. Zoom may now be a buzzworthy company, but it knows that its popularity may disappear as people (hopefully) return to offices and competing services like Google Meet and Microsoft Teams can gain more traction. Email and other services could give you a reason to stay long after the pandemic is over.
The challenge, of course, is the size of his rivals. Gmail and Outlook are heavy in email, with giant user bases and tight integration with a number of other services. Zoom has less email experience than Google and Microsoft when it comes to video calling – it’s not guaranteed to conquer people, even if its current app was part of the 2020 cultural zeitgeist.
