Young Salvadoran Red Cross volunteer killed on his way to Quezaltepeque | News from El Salvador

According to the information from the authorities, the young man and another colleague were attacked with a firearm.

Ángel David Bonilla Escobar, 20, died Sunday night after being attacked with a firearm on the way to Quezaltepeque, according to information from the National Civil Police (PNC).

The young man volunteered for the Salvadoran Red Cross section in Usulután and, for several years, worked as a lifeguard at the institution.

Escobar lived in the El Molino neighborhood of Usulután, now in his second year of high school. A spokesman for the institution commented that he is studying and working.

“He had skills, he was a very good athlete, well qualified and they had a spirit of service,” he said.

Preliminary information about the case reveals that the young man was working on a truck transporting food packages that the Government delivered when he was the victim of the armed attack. According to the report, a shooting alert was received in the area at 22:20.

The truck driver, identified as 32-year-old Norberto Antonio Ávalos Beltrán, was also injured in the incident.

According to the report, the victims were assisted by a patrol from the Apopa delegation, but Escobar had already died.

The scene was located at kilometer 35 1/2 between the Texaco Versalles gas station, the main entrance in the canton of Chanmico.
