While all eyes were on him M1 colored iMacs at yesterday’s Spring Loaded event, Apple also quietly updated the M1 Mac Mini. Now you can configure it with a 10 Gigabit Ethernet port!

Apple first added 10 Gbps Ethernet to the Mac Mini back in 2018. However, the M1 Mac mini released in November, its network options included support for Wi-Fi 6, but you could only get it with a regular Ethernet port. This probably wasn’t a big deal for the average consumer, but it was a notable omission for professionals or creators who might need that extra speed. Given that the Mac Mini M1 is very affordable for $ 699, it was kind of silly for low-budget professionals. Conformable 9to5 Mac, the 10 Gbps Mac Mini M1 configuration was leaked to Apple’s authorized internal service providers, but it appears that the models were not available in time for launch.

No more! As with every Apple event, the Apple online store went offline as new product announcements appeared. Once the store was saved, it turned out that you can now configure the M1 Mac Mini with 10 Gbps Ethernet – an option that was previously only available on Intel-powered Mac Minis.

That being said, there are a few small things to keep in mind. For starters, adding a faster Ethernet port will save you an extra $ 100, bringing the price to at least $ 799. (However, still cheaper than the cheapest M1 iMac.) The other thing is that you can’t get this option from other retailers. Because this is an additional upgrade, if you want this special setup, you need to go through the official Apple store. In addition, you will have to wait a while to get one. When I went through the Apple Store, the earliest I was able to get a 10 Gbps Mac Mini M1 was May 4th.

Even so, this is good news for yesterday that could have been buried in Attack of bright ads about new products. We like to see extensive consumer options, so hooray for anyone in the Venn chart of “Mac Mini Fans,” “People Who Need Faster Networking,” and “People on a Budget.”
