As Gematsu reported, Taro says his next game is an independent, digital-only title that is “difficult to explain” and a “somewhat unusual game,” which is mysterious and has no idea how to explain or to sell”.
So basically a Yoko Taro game.Taro is probably humble because Nier Automata has sold 5.5 million units worldwide since its launch in 2017. An extremely successful figure for a relatively unknown spinoff from the Drakengard series.
While Taro claimed that he would work on any project as long as he was paid, the director kept a relatively low profile from Nier Automata. He was the creative director of the mobile game SINoAlice, as well as a screenwriter for the raid cycle Final Fantasy 14: Shadowbringers Nier.
While Taro has not explained to us whether this is a new series or related to Nier, Taro’s next project is definitely of interest to us. In the meantime, the Nier remaster / update will be released this week and you can check out the final preview here.
