TAMPA – Luke Voit gave a brief scare to the top of the Yankees’ third 6-1 victory over the Phillies at BayCare Ballpark in Clearwater, Florida. After being scratched on Tuesday due to right knee pain, DH tried to advance to third place on Clint Frazier’s ball to the left, but was thrown by Andrew McCutchen. It seemed as though he was completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle. He tried to lift the ball over but overcooked it and hit the bar instead.
“It feels great,” said Aaron Boone. “It’s not a very smart label in the second. He really just wanted to test it and he felt good and said he was fine. [afterwards]. We hope we have a better decision in the regular season. ”
Voit will not play against the Tigers on Friday on a planned day off.
While Giancarlo Stanton looked good on the plate, Boone said there are still no plans to try him off the field – although he did not rule out the possibility.
“I have nothing in the program,” said the manager. “We want them to find their workload and routine on the plate.”
Jay Bruce now started the games at first base, left field and right field and impressed Boone everywhere.
“Right now, we see everything we could have hoped for,” Boone said. “It simply came to our notice then [also] with defensive versatility and what we think is the ability to play first. ”
