Xbox x Nintendo ad teased by those inside

A new rumor suggests that Nintendo and Xbox will make an announcement later this year. The rumor was shared by Shpeshal Ed on Twitter, the co-founder of XboxEra.com. The poster pointed to an April 9 video about Mess Mess from Jeff Grubb. In the video, Grubb discusses a photo of Phil Spencer with many interesting items on the shelf in the background, including a Nintendo Switch. (that image can be seen at ResetEra right here). In the video, Grubb states that “everything on Phil’s shelf meant something to enter.” Readers should take this with a grain of salt, but it will be interesting to see if the two companies really plan something.

Microsoft has shown a significant amount of support for Switch in recent years. Microsoft has released games like Or the blind forest and Minecraft on the Nintendo console, while characters like Banjo-Kazooie and Steve can be played in Super Smash Bros. last. As a result of this relationship, there have been several rumors that the Xbox Game Pass could reach the Switch. Microsoft has provided a lot of support to the service, and getting it on the Switch would add more potential subscribers.

There are a lot of reasons why the Game Pass would make sense for Microsoft on the Switch, but it’s hard to say if Nintendo would see it as a benefit. It is also worth mentioning that there are several games on the Game Pass that may not be playable on the Switch, so Microsoft should specifically adapt a library as it does for the PC. A new Nintendo Switch model could help remove this hurdle, but it’s also just a rumor at the moment.

Of course, this may be something else entirely. Fans hoped for more Microsoft characters to appear Super Smash Bros. last, such as Master Chief and Doom Slayer. Nintendo fans also have a lot of passion for Banjo-Kazooie; with playable characters in Coup, maybe Nintendo and Microsoft could collaborate on a completely new game! For now, fans will only have to temper their expectations.
