Some changes are in progress for Xbox Live users. Today, an update to Xbox Insiders Alpha will remove the Xbox Live Gold requirement for Party Chat, Looking 4 Groups and multiplayer in free games.
According to the release notes, these service changes are tested and tested before general availability, which means that they will eventually reach all Xbox users.
Microsoft has already announced that it will drop the Xbox Live Gold requirement for free games in January, when it reversed the price increase for the Gold service.
Xbox Live has also been changing, with Xbox Live being recently renamed the Xbox Network. “The upgrade from ‘Xbox Live’ to ‘Xbox Network’ is intended to distinguish the core service from Xbox Live Gold subscriptions,” Microsoft told The Verge.
