Wynn Resorts will not require employees to be vaccinated against Covid-19, but the Las Vegas casino operator leaves a program in place to keep the coronavirus at bay.
Matthew Maddox, Wynn’s chief executive, told CNBC’s Jim Cramer on Thursday that staff could choose to be tested weekly or inoculated, both of which could be done on the spot.
“I don’t think it’s our job to send vaccines to everyone, but what I’m sending is that we’re free in our staff,” he said in an interview with Mad Money.
About 60 percent of Wynn employees were vaccinated, Maddox said. The company reported at the end of last year about 27,500 employees, of whom 14,400 are in the United States.
The Wynn Las Vegas Encore Hotel is a community vaccination site where more than 40,000 vaccinations have been administered, Maddox said, including 4,000 employees.
“We continue to do everything we can to create a safe environment that we know will be fun because it’s coming,” Maddox said. “Fun is coming.”
Wynn is one of many companies that have decided not to ask workers to receive a Covid-19 vaccine, although many experts say it would be legal for employers to impose health precautions. About 3 million people in the United States now receive gunshots every day, while states drop age restrictions.
