Wuhan returns to normal as the rest of the world fights COVID-19

Wuhan, the Chinese industrial city where the coronavirus was first discovered, has largely returned to normal as the rest of the world fights the pandemic.

Residents of the city of 11 million people were jogging and practicing tai chi in a park last week, many of them without a face shield.

Wuhan was responsible for most of the 4,635 deaths in China, but has been free from outbreaks since the lockdown lifted in April, the Associated Press said.

China announced a further 107 cases of coronavirus, bringing the total number of infections since the start of the pandemic to nearly 89,000. According to the latest statistics from Johns Hopkins University, more than two million people around the world have died from COVID-19.

After lengthy negotiations, China last week authorized the World Health Organization to send a team of international experts to investigate the origin of the virus. A group of experts linked to the WHO had criticized China for not being fast enough to deal with the pandemic.
