Following the cancellation of the personal competition in 2020 due to the growing pandemic of covid-19, the Pokémon Company announced that it will skip the official tournaments until 2021.

“The safety and well-being of our competitors, organizers, employees, local communities and partners [continue] to be our main priority and is the main consideration of every decision we make “, said the company’s statement. “[W]I made the difficult decision to move on to the next one Pokémon World Championships until 2022. This event is planned to take place in London, UK. ”

As in previous events, this year’s Pokémon World Championships were to compete in Pokémon video games and trading cards, as well as individual fighting game Pokkén Tournament with satellite qualifications leading to the main event in London. Instead, the Pokémon Company will focus its 2021 efforts on online organization Pokémon Players’ Cup events, just like last year. Players already invited to compete in 2020 will see their invitations move back to 2022.

“We thank our millions of players, fans, organizers and teachers around the world for their continued support and understanding,” the announcement added. „The Pokémon International Championships and Pokémon The World Cups are significant opportunities for us and the player community and we look forward to seeing you all and competing again. ”
