With billions at stake, Governor Whitmer and Michigan Republicans refuse to budge

DETROIT – For a year now, the governor and the Michigan legislature have been fighting over how to handle the COVID crisis.

Most recently, the controlled Republican body approved an additional $ 4 billion budget, with many strings attached, that would require Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to relinquish emergency powers.

On Monday, Whitmer weighed where he was.

Both sides remain faithful to the formation. Neither side is moving and the war of words continues to intensify.

“We have $ 5 billion allocated to the Michigan legislature whose Republican control is trying to hold back those dollars and trying to push me to give up the executive powers I used to save lives. I know this will never happen and it is really sad, “said Whitmer.

Whitmer was on MSNBC on Monday morning.

“So our legislature to play this dangerous game with the resources we need is really disappointing, but unfortunately you know we have to keep trying to do everything we can to move forward,” Whitmer said.

Upstairs Republican leader Ben Fredericks of Owosso believes governor plays dangerous and stubborn role game.

“I think he continues to paint the picture: this is a governor who simply wants to behave in an authoritarian way, because he talks about the desire to work with other people on every occasion that was presented, he was rejected. Working with this governor simply means complying, ”Owosso said.

Getting the billions of dollars that the federal government offers Michiganders continues to get tougher.

“The governor will have to figure out to walk alone and stop the shot from the hip, through a press conference. We cannot continue to bite our lives in two to three steps based on what someone might say. There must be a plan, “Owosso said.
