Wisconsin Health System: Aurora Medical Center Deliberately Disrupted Vaccine

GRAFTON, Wisconsin. – A Wisconsin health system official said Wednesday that 500 doses of coronavirus vaccine that had to be discarded after being left without refrigeration appear to have been deliberately pampered by an employee.

Aurora Medical Center first reported the altered doses on Saturday and said they were accidentally left overnight by an employee at their Grafton unit.

In a statement late Wednesday, Aurora said the employee involved “admitted today that he intentionally removed the vaccine from the refrigerator.”

Aurora’s statement said they fired the employee and sent the matter to the authorities for further investigation. Their statement said nothing about a possible reason for the action, and health officials did not immediately respond to messages requesting more information.

“We continue to believe that vaccination is our way out of the pandemic. We are more than disappointed that this individual’s actions will lead to a delay of more than 500 people receiving the vaccine,” the statement said.

Aurora declined to provide further information, but said they would provide more details on Thursday.
