The agency reported the total statewide Thursday in its weekly report of deaths from winter storms.
The deaths listed in Thursday’s report occurred between Feb. 11 and March 5, and the majority of deaths reported to DSHS were related to hypothermia, the agency said.
“There have also been multiple deaths from motor vehicle accidents, carbon monoxide poisoning, defective medical equipment, worsening of chronic illness, lack of oxygen at home, falls and fires,” the report said.
The news comes more than a month after a severe winter storm hit the region. Normally known for its heat, Texas struggled to cope with the storm due to widespread power outages and water outages that left it frozen for thousands of weeks.
As of Wednesday, 127 state residents were still under a boiling water warrant, according to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
