Wife of Missouri Senator Josh Hawley files a lawsuit for protest outside the couple’s home

(KY3) – Erin Hawley, Missouri’s wife, US Senator Josh Hawley, filed a criminal complaint last month against an organizer of a protest outside the couple’s Virginia home, ABC News reports.

According to ABC News, the person has been charged with a crime of illegally demonstrating but not charged with threats or vandalism, as the criminal complaint alleged.

Hawley’s office told ABC News that the complaint had been filed in a court in Fairfax County, Virginia. Under Virginia state law, any citizen can file a criminal complaint and request a subpoena, although a local magistrate must find enough “probable cause” to issue one.

Hawley was the first United States Senator to announce his intention to challenge election results certified by the Electoral College. He objected to the election results in Arizona and Pennsylvania on the night of Jan. 6, a challenge that continued after a riot in the Capitol as Congress worked to certify votes.

While the objections did not alter the results for either state, they delayed the certification of Joe Biden’s presidential election victory.

Senator Hawley recently discussed the capital’s uproar and other topics in a one-on-one interview with KY3 News.
