The great Yankee Joe DiMaggio appeared almost in an episode of “Seinfeld”.
Joltin ‘Joe was obviously featured in an episode of season 3 in which Kramer sees him at a cafe and tries to disrupt DiMaggio’s concentration while dipping his donuts (DiMaggio himself did not appear in the episode).
According to Dr. Rock Positano – an old friend of the slugger and author of “Dinner with DiMaggio” – DiMaggio’s family loved the episode and urged him to make a cameo in series.
“Joe’s nieces were big fans of Seinfeld and they wanted him to make a cameo,” Positano told Page Six.
Positano also revealed that DiMaggio was, in fact, a “dunker” whose favorite “was the simple cake, fried on a grill on one side only.”
Eventually, the notorious private sports hero removed the look, despite his family’s pleas.
“He felt he would open up to critics and invade his private life every time he entered a cafe,” Positano explained.
But “Seinfeld” made a mistake.
“Joe was a dunker who sank with his right hand, not his left, as shown in the ‘Seinfeld’ scene,” Positano added. “He would always order half a cup of decaffeinated hot water and mix the two meticulously like a chemist.”
